We also know that the Golden Rule of habit modification holds true: if we maintain the same signal and reward, we can successfully introduce a new routine. However, that is not adequate. To successfully break a habit, one must first have faith that it can be broken. And that conviction usually takes the support of a community to form.

It is common knowledge among the successful that one’s social circle significantly affects one’s chances of success. It’s much more likely that you’ll achieve your goals if you spend your time with people who share your beliefs and will keep you accountable, rather to those who don’t.

Researchers have found that one’s social network has a significant impact on one’s mental and physical health. Part of the reason for this is that people’s habits tend to rub off on them. If you have a close buddy who is already committed to a regular fitness regimen, it will be much easier for you to adopt this habit yourself.
